Singing In... Carols Book

Many parts of the country have their own sets of local carols, but there is arguably nowhere with a set as extensive as in Sheffield and North Derbyshire. The singing of the carols remains strong in places such as Bradfield, Dungworth, Ecclesfield, Grenoside, Oughtibridge, Wharncliffe Side and Worrall, but in the packed out pubs today, with the beer flowing and a desire from many to sing the tune, you won't hear the original harmonies quite so clearly.

The Singing In... Carols book aims to make the carols more accessible in a choral setting and will be of interest to those who want to sing them in the way they were originally intended. First published in October 2022, the book brings together a collection of 40 local carols, including no less than six settings of 'While Shepherds Watched'!

The collection is accompanied by an online resource where you can hear the harmonies, find out more information about each carol and read performance notes.

The book has been produced by volunteers from our separate Friends group to raise funds for such purposes as funding new music, performances in special places and participation in workshops. The book is priced at £12 (£8 for members of Friends of Singing In... Choirs).
