Frequently Asked Questions

I don’t like having to pay so much for single occupancy of a double or twin room. So, why do I have to?

Put simply, we have yet to find a venue that does not have an overwhelming bias towards twin and double rooms and a policy of charging a substantial uplift for participants who seek single usage of twin or double room accommodation. Our approach is therefore to source venues with a reasonable proportion of single rooms wherever possible and offer these rooms on a first come, first served, basis.

The majority of the rooms in Singing In... venues will, by necessity, be more suitable for either couples or friends willing to share a double or twin room. We are always on the look out for suitable venues with a higher proportion of single bedrooms to that of twin/double rooms.

I sing in one of Kate’s choirs so why should I attend a Singing In… event?

If you sing in one of Kate’s choirs you will have already experienced and appreciated Kate’s approach to singing, musical and choral direction. No matter how much you enjoy the weekly rehearsals they are mostly geared up to meeting the demands of a fixed repertoire to meet scheduled performance and competition events.

Singing In… events are different from your weekly choir rehearsals in that Kate uses the freedom from usual constraints to vary the style, complexity, and format of exercises and songs and gently extend individual and collective singing ability. This results in a weekend dedicated to working, playing and having fun in beautiful surroundings.

As a member of one of Kate’s choirs commented after the first Singing In… event:

‘I really enjoyed the freedom to try new songs and styles of songs. I felt supported and empowered to try things in a different way from our normal choir nights. It was challenging but so much fun to work on songs over the weekend’

I have been to one of Bob’s workshops so why should I attend a Singing In… event?

If you have been to one or more of Bob’s workshops you will already know that he uses his musical experience and skills to inform his work on creativity and innovation. You may also have heard Bob say he believes creativity often comes from serendipity and happenstance. In a similar way to Kate’s choir rehearsals, Bob’s workshops are designed and structured to achieve the desired outcomes. However, he always seeks to create the circumstance where creativity can happen by chance.

Bob combines these approaches in his contribution to the Singing In… events he co-designs and delivers with Kate.

An engineer from a multi-national organisation on one of Bob’s workshops recalls how he tested the boundaries of his creativity in his workplace:

‘I shall always remember you making us sing in a meeting room lol’

I don’t know either Bob or Kate so what would I get from attending a Singing In… event?

Put simply, Singing In… events are for singers and musicians to meet others who share their passion of singing and trying something a little different. For those participants who sing in a choir this means they can sing without the usual constraints of their regular choir rehearsals. Those participants who don’t sing regularly can feel secure in the knowledge that even the regular singers will be feeling their way!

In the words of one of the singers from the first Singing In… event:

The weekend started at 6.00pm on Friday evening with a very warm greeting from Bob and Kate in the beautiful setting of Derwent Hill.  After our delicious evening meal, we experienced our first singing session with Kate. Under her artistic, enthusiastic and clear direction the highly motivated like-minded mixed group of singers quickly bonded with some lovely harmonies. I knew that we were in for a treat!’

I have some special dietary requirements. Can these be accommodated in your Singing In... events?

If you have any special dietary requirements, allergies, etc. you should inform us of such requests either at the time of booking or as soon as possible so we can discuss these with you and make any necessary arrangements. We will always do our best to accommodate such requests but be aware that we cannot always guarantee that such requests will be met. Please see our Terms and Conditions for more information.

In the words of one of the singers from the first Singing In… event:

'Lovely little touches included homemade biscuits together with a copy of the weekend schedule in our rooms, as well as specific dietary requirements arranged.'

I have one or more medical issues / disabilities. Can you advise as to the suitability of attending a Singing In... event?

If you or any member of your party have any medical issues or disabilities that might affect the holiday, please tell us before you confirm your booking so that we can advise as to the suitability of the chosen arrangements. Please see our Terms and Conditions for more information.
